Originally started as the Atlanta Cubs, fans referred to the team as the Black Crackers in reference to the white team that they shared a stadium with. The team eventually gave in and officially changed their name the next season. After playing most of their seasons at the minor league level, the Black Crackers finally got their shot at the major league level when they were invited to join the Negro American League. The team made the most of their opportunity and made it to the championship series, which was cancelled due to a variety of controversies and the team never played again in Atlanta.
